SUPPORT WESTSIDE PUBLIC SCHOOL MANDARIN PROGRAM
A group of parents interested in adding a Mandarin immersion language program to one of the SW Portland public school clusters (elementary, middle and high school) are asking Portland Public Schools (PPS) and the PPS board of directors to add a second Mandarin immersion program.
Presently, the only option for children interested in attending a 1/2 day Mandarin immersion program through the public school system is to attend the Cleveland cluster located in SE Portland. For some parents, that locations is not practical or possible. We are asking for a second program to be set up the same way as the successful Cleveland cluster program, for schools located on the West side of Portland so that more children will have the option to attend this program.
You can show your support of this effort by signing your name to their website http://chinese.weareahappyfamily.com/. This website is being shown to PPS and their board, so they are asking you to sign it as soon as possible. Please include your own comments about why you are in support of adding Mandarin immersion to the West side of Portland. They have a meeting set with the PPS Administrators the week of December 3rd so the more parents that sign the petition, the more support they will see and hopefully make our dream a reality. If you have any questions about our efforts, please contact us at our e-mail mandarinswpdx@gmail.com.
