NW CHINESE ACADEMY OPEN HOUSE FRI. FEB. 27

Family Friendly Open House at Northwest Chinese Academy on Friday, February 27 at 6:30 pm.

Children can participate in a Chinese Arts & Crafts activity while parents learn about our Chinese Immersion School in Downtown Beaverton.

ALWAYS & FOREVER INFO MEETING SAT. FEB. 21

In order to help more families ease the burden of travel costs, Always & Forever Homeland Tours is rolling out new promotions and cost saving coupons. Information about the current promotions are posted on their website under "Latest News". They are busy organizing 2009 group tours as scheduled and arranging customized trips for individual families as well. their Adoption Reunion Tour late March to early April 2009 is already full. There is still space available for other 2009 tours.

The next informational meeting on homeland tours will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the office of Associated Services for International Adoption (ASIA) in Portland,Oregon.

Public Seminars at the Portland Classical Chinese Garden

Oregon College of Oriental Medicine Offers Public Seminars at the Portland Classical Chinese Garden


These events take place at the Garden, located at 239 NW Everett (on the corner of NW 3rd and Everett) in Portland’s Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood. Seminars are included in the price of admission to the Garden.


At these seminars, OCOM faculty members will speak on various topics based on their areas of clinical focus. March seminar information is as follows:


Eat Your Greens: The Healing Power of Vegetables
Tuesday, March 17 from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Mom always told you to eat your vegetables. Now you can learn why! Join us for a cooking demonstration and engaging talk about the healing properties of vegetables.


Berries, Bark and Roots: Benefitting from Chinese Herbs Tuesday, March 31 from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Join us as we venture into the vast subject of Chinese herbal medicine. This seminar will introduce you to the basics of Chinese herbal medicine and help you learn how Chinese herbs may benefit you.


The Garden hosts several signature events such as these throughout the year. The events are intended to enrich the Garden’s mission of engaging and educating visitors in the richly authentic culture of China and allow visitors to see the Garden in new ways.


This seminar series has been extremely successful, so OCOM will also be offering public seminars at the Garden from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM every Tuesday from June 16 – September 1.

BODHI TREE OPEN HOUSE FEB. 21

Open House for Chinese Children's Programs: Saturday, February 21, 12-2 pm. This is a good time to visit the center for the first time, meet the teachers, and get familiar with the Mandarin Chinese language programs for toddlers (2-year olds), preschoolers (3-5 year olds), homeschoolers (6+ year olds) and afterschoolers (6+ year olds). Chinese TODDLERS Program: Thursdays, 10 am - 12 noon (2 hours a week). This class is designed for 2-year old children. Small classes. Children learn Mandarin Chinese culture and language through coloring, singing and dancing, group games, story telling, and by having fun -- all in Mandarin Chinese. Parents should be present. The International School Open House

WHAT: Preschool & Kindergarten Open House for Japanese, Spanish & Chinese total immersion programs

WHEN: Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Tours begin at 6pm, 6:30pm, and 7pm

WHY: For families to see and understand the total immersion program for children aged 3 years to 5th grade. Visitors will get to talk to teachers, current parents, and administrators.

WHO: Parents and grandparents of children aged 0 to 6 (who have not yet started kindergarten).
